The city of Mitchell, with a population of around 1700, is in the Scott's Bluff County of Nebraska and once had its own racecourse in the late 1940s. The racecourse was situated at Scott's Bluff Fairground and was a 4 furlong oval track with a 5 furlong chute and 150 metre home straight. The track had a small grandstand which had the potential to seat up to 2000 people. Meetings were held each September and lasted for the entire week. Although held as part of the state fair, betting first took place at the track on 1st September 1947 and meetings were held each year thereafter for almost 20 years. The final meeting was staged on 9th September 1967.
